Work

Here, you’ll find some examples of books and comics I’ve worked on—whether independently or in-house. Depending on the title, my role may have involved developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, acquisitions, or project management.

My experience and interests are not limited to the categories represented below, and in most cases the books and clients shown are only a sample of my work in that genre or topic. Besides book and comics clients, I’ve worked for online newsrooms, nonprofits, content agencies, and more.

I’ve listed some additional areas on my About page along with current and past clients, but if you’re wondering whether I have experience in the area you need, I welcome you to contact me.

Comics & Graphic Novels

My comics experience includes six months of full-time in-house work at DC Comics as a temporary proofreader as well as freelance proofreading and script copyediting for DC and other publishers. The titles here are just a sample of the ongoing and limited series, one-shots, anthologies, graphic novels, and collected editions I’ve worked on across all age ratings.

Prose Fiction

My prose fiction work has included developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading for both traditionally published titles (below) and self-published books (not shown).

Science & Technology

I’ve edited, proofread, and project managed a variety of general-audience books about science topics. During my time as an in-house editor, this included developing and commissioning an officially licensed guide to the real-life science of Star Trek technology and serving as project manager and licensing coordinator on a series created in collaboration with the National Air and Space Museum.

Media & Criticism

I’ve drawn on my cultural studies degree in working on books about film, identity, society, pop culture, and more. I also regularly edit media reviews and cultural essays in my role as senior editor at Twin Cities Geek.

History

I’ve edited, proofread, and project managed books on a variety of history topics, including prose-only narratives, heavily illustrated coffee-table books, and short-format bookazines.

Race & Culture

I regularly edit books focusing on cultures other than my own and am familiar with the balance of implementing a publisher’s style while respecting the author’s voice. I also have extensive experience with conscious/inclusive language as it relates to authors writing about communities to which they don’t belong.

French Language & Culture

I studied French formally for ten years, and it was one half of my dual undergraduate major. I regularly use my language skills and cultural knowledge in my editorial work, whether in checking an isolated French phrase or as a more integral part of a project.

Lost Souls was a new translation of Balzac’s Splendeurs et misères des courtisanes (A Harlot High and Low) that included references to the original phrasing as well as citations of French-language sources. Wanderlust was a travel guide translated from French to English, which I developmentally edited and localized with close reference to the original text.

Cars & Motorcycles

I worked closely with the Motorbooks automotive imprint during my five years at the Quarto Group and have continued to edit and proofread Motorbooks projects as an independent editor along with those from other publishers. While in-house, in addition to my editorial work, I coordinated approvals for officially licensed projects with Ford, GM, Dodge, Harley-Davidson, and other makers and helped ensure books and marketing materials followed licensor guidelines.

Memoir & Creative Nonfiction

I’ve edited and proofread personal stories of self-reflection, grief, joy, discovery, and much more. I’m particularly interested in unique voices and thoughtful examinations of the self and the world.

Spirituality

I’ve worked on a range of contemplative, historic26al, and instructional books on religious and spirituality subjects. The majority of my experience lies in Wicca/witchcraft, general New Age topics, and Lutheranism.

Nonfiction for Young Readers

In addition to the trade books shown here, I’ve edited and proofread series and individual titles for the school library market.
